Basketball Victoria launches “Play Hoops” (playhoops.com.au), a platform aimed at driving and streamlining the process of signing up to play basketball in Victoria.
To build on Basketball Victoria’s mission and purpose of supporting associations to provide “more basketball, more often” and “opportunities for all” – playhoops.com.au features an integrated search function allowing those interested to play, to easily find a local competition and register seamlessly.
Originally broached as a way to help participants get back to basketball after COVID-19, playhoops.com.au will assist clubs, associations and facilities by showcasing what casual basketball fans can find by getting involved in the sport on an ongoing basis. The campaign will also aim to stretch into other areas of the sport, driving the recruitment of officials, volunteers and coaches.
As part of the campaign, local associations will also be provided with marketing materials to help drive registration through their local venues and via social media. “While basketballers are beginning to return to the sport more regularly particular in the juniors’ space, we were conscious that many sports and activities have faced an uncertain return to post-pandemic activity, so we aim to address any gaps in the market and target relevant demographics to inspire them to participate” noted Basketball Victoria’s GM of Communications, Marketing & Digital Matt McIntosh.
“Play Hoops is an important part of Basketball Victoria’s strategy to address participation not just due to COVID-19, but to capitalise on those who are love the game but yet to commit to an organised competition. With over 150 associations across Victoria running many different competition types, we will be able to take a flexible approach to fostering participation and allow us to target areas of need – whether seasonal registration peaks, specific competition types or geographic areas that may need a hand.”
